Underground Railroad Podcasts

P1050644The 5th graders at Carver took on a great project.  This combines language arts, social studies, and technology.  The students did research using the web and wrote narrative essays as if they were slaves on the Underground Railroad.  The students recorded their voices and selected their background music.  The music is by the McIntosh County Shouters.  The album is available in iTunes.  I have included a sample below.

Traveling Stories 2nd Grade

P1050217

I love working with small groups.  I had the pleasure of working with 5 outstanding 2nd graders today.  We made traveling stories using Garageband.  Each student recorded their opening sentence.  We then traded laptops 4 times to record the rest of the stories.  Once the stories were complete the students picked out some opening music.  This is a great activity to work on creative “writing” and other language arts skills.
