Don’t believe in the power of mobile devices……

If you don’t believe that mobile devices are very powerful, this entire post (including videos) was done without the use of a traditional computer. The video was filmed on my iPhone4. I edited the movie using the iMovie App for the iPhone. The iMovie app lets you edit and splice pictures and video together. You can even add titles, a voice over, a soundtrack, and transitions. I then ran the video through the Film Director app to give it the silent movie/ 1960’s movie treatment. Below is the final product of our first snow day this year.

Vimeo Video School

I have started to find this site really useful. Vimeo does a really good job at keeping it’s users updated on the latest and greatest videos on their site. Check out Vimeo’s School at: http://vimeo.com/videoschool. You can following them on Twitter at @Vimeo. If you are new to making videos, click on the “Video 101”. I learned how to make a video mount for my bike by watching a very “spirited” video maker. While the video I made is not as good as this one, this was my inspiration. Here is the link to the page I used: http://vimeo.com/videoschool/lesson/90/do-it-yourself-bicycle-camera-mount

H21- Carver 4th/PE

This lesson was done my Nancy Loveless and Jackie Davis at Carver.  Their students worked through the scientific method to learn the effects of friction or the lack of friction in relation to the number of steps and time it takes to complete three laps in their gym.  There are screenshots of the process below as well as the video that was recorded during the experiment.  This is a great collaboration between teachers and content areas.

Afternoon Chats

The 4th grade team at Glen Allen has got their students excited to learn about the famous people covered in 4th grade.  The students represent a famous person and are “interviewed” by a host.  The video below is on of the 4 videos produced by the students in all 4 classes today.  The interviews took about 15 minutes to record and then one “technical” student came and edited their videos which took about 1 hour.  We are meeting Ptolemy, Galileo, Aristotle, and Copernicus next week.  Get the togas ready!

Thanks to the students and teachers for working so hard.

Henrico21- Longdale 4th

The 4th grade teachers at Longdale, Jen Travers, Crista Wheaton, and Leigh Hershey, challenged their students to create newscasts about weather systems.  The students teamed up with students from each classroom and wrote their scripts collaboratively using GoogleDocs.  Each classroom was charged with writing one portion of the newscast.  Once the scripts were drafted, the discussion of “edits” took place using the chat feature.  The projects were filmed using props, Promethean boards, and even fake snow!  The final video products were edited using iMovie.  Below are 2 examples of the final iMovies.  Great job 4th graders.
