H21- Carver 4th/PE

This lesson was done my Nancy Loveless and Jackie Davis at Carver.  Their students worked through the scientific method to learn the effects of friction or the lack of friction in relation to the number of steps and time it takes to complete three laps in their gym.  There are screenshots of the process below as well as the video that was recorded during the experiment.  This is a great collaboration between teachers and content areas.

Graphing and Language Arts!

Picture 1This activity is a combination of Language Arts, Math, and Technology.  This second grade class read the story “The Mixed-Up Chameleon” by Eric Carle.   After reading about this crazy chameleon, the students picked what they would like to be mixed-up with.  We used Numbers to make the graph.  Instead of using the traditional colored bars, we dragged pictures of our “mixed-up” creatures to the bars.

Numbers, Numbers, and More Numbers!!!

Many of you have been asking questions about Numbers since the new technology folders have come out.  I have been doing  a lot of lessons in 3rd and 4th grade already. I have made a video for you that will show you how to make a spreadsheet and graph.  Below are 2 examples of graphs I have done.  Both were done at Glen Allen with 4th graders.

We graphed high and low temperatures.

We also graphed the types of clouds that were in the sky. We dragged in pictures of the cloud types instead of using plain colors.
