1st graders are getting ready to start talking about money. I put together some Pixie slides for them to test their skills. This is a great way to preassess your students’ knowledge about money before you get started. I was very impressed with how well the kids did with this project. Dominique was one of my Money Whizzes this morning. He stayed back with me and we turned his project into a movie which made him very happy. Click here to watch Dominique’s movie. I have included a link for you to use to download the folder that includes the title slide as well as the other slides needed for this activity.

Ashley Catlin’s Kindergarten students at Carver used Pixie to help enhance and show their knowledge of the life cycle of the monarch butterfly. Ashley’s students started with a template and then had to sort through the collection of stickers in Pixie to create their slideshow. The students then recorded their voices explaining what is taking place in each stage.
Below is an example of a final product.

Last week I helped some 1st graders create animal habitats in Pixie. The teacher asked,”Is there anything else that we can do with these?” My answer,”Oh yeah!” So I worked with the kids a second time, using their the picture we created the week before. We used Pixie to animate. Every student in the class made their animals go straight across the screen except Alex. He has discovered the rotate tool on his own and here is his animation. Nice job Alex!
We had a little fun today. I used the template that is attached to this post and the kids did the rest. I have included some of their art below. Click here to download the template.

2nd Grade Native Americans

While I was working with the 2nd Graders I saw this picture being created. It is an amazing piece of artwork. Way to go Wyatt!!
The 2nd grade team has started a great project for their Native American unit. Each student will use Pixie to create a village/settlement for the Powhatans, Sioux, and Pueblo. They will write a couple of sentences about each group and then record their voice on each slide. After the slides are completed, I will visit classroom to turn the slides into one movie that the kids can view and share with their families.
