Don’t believe in the power of mobile devices……

If you don’t believe that mobile devices are very powerful, this entire post (including videos) was done without the use of a traditional computer. The video was filmed on my iPhone4. I edited the movie using the iMovie App for the iPhone. The iMovie app lets you edit and splice pictures and video together. You can even add titles, a voice over, a soundtrack, and transitions. I then ran the video through the Film Director app to give it the silent movie/ 1960’s movie treatment. Below is the final product of our first snow day this year.

Any Questions?- Ethernet Cord

When I came to Longdale Elementary last week and sat down I found that the ethernet cord that I use was placed in an interesting way. This raised some questions with me, mostly out of curiosity. I brought my Flip camera with me today, and made the following video. Any questions?

Paper Airplanes….. Any Questions?

This is my first attempt at creating an “Any Questions” video. The first place I saw Any Questions was on Dan Meyer’s blog. Any Questions can be followed on Twitter by following the hash tag #anyqs. The purpose of the #anyqs videos is to show a short video clip and let your students come up with their own questions to answer. It is important to let the students drive the conversation and their own learning. It doesn’t take any great video skills to make a video. All you need is something to film that will generate questions. Ben Rimes (@techsavvyed), an technology instructor from Michigan, found the craziest tree wrapping machine while picking out his Christmas Tree. I watched the video a number of times and had a bunch of questions to ask.

A friend and I are developing a bunch of lessons and a presentation that is based on paper airplanes and integrating technology into those lessons without “chasing something shiny”.  We want to take integrating technology back to the basics.  So here is my first Any Questions video. Any questions?

Drop Box

Two of my teammates have created tutorials that will help you get pictures and files off of your classroom iPads and onto your classroom computers by using the Drop Box app. It also works the other way around. You can use it to drop pictures from your computer onto the iPads in your classroom as well. Stephanie Wright has created a tutorial that will show you how to get started with DropBox.  In her video it says that you need a GMail account.  You can also use your HCPS email address.  Karen Hues has created a handout that will show you how to share files that you have with other Drop Box users.  Her handout uses HCPS email addresses to make share the files a little easier.  If you have questions let me know.
